Getting this section going...

I am currently trying to pull together all of the pieces to deploy PyKota in my lab(s), and have been running into a number of issues. A focused discussion should help all of us running a Mac OS X shop get up and running quicker and more reliably.

As the sole administrator of a nearly fifty workstation lab of PowerMac dual G5's running Mac OS X 10.4, with three printers (and more on the way) and a large number of potential users, I have come to the conclusion that I absolutely must employ a reliable printer queue management system. After looking around I came upon PyKota, and thought I'd give it a look. I'm impressed. A lot of work has gone into this!

That being said, I am having problems getting everything working on Mac OS X, and there seems a dearth of documentation. (It's quite possible I'm just blind, so don't take that comment as gospel!) I thought if we could get a focused discussion going, we could have a nice set of written docs to help others get up and running.

I think first we should do a little "fact finding" and figure out how to distinguish and delineate the various parts necessary and how they fit into the structure of Mac OS X. We may have to address differences between versions of OS X as well. Then perhaps a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches to acquiring and building what is necessary to operate PyKota on the server end, and PyKotIcon on the client end. (IMHO, PyKotIcon on the client end is currently where I am getting stuck!)

I would love to get some feedback, and do not mind putting in time and effort on finding nice, clean solutions!

PyKota + MacOSX

This document is pretty old now, but it is still helpful I believe :
http://archive.macosxlabs.org/forum/webcrossing_archive/documentation/Pykota_and_CUPS/Pykota_and_CUPS.html

However it won't help with PyKotIcon which didn't exist at that time.

But for PyKoticon there's this link to an installable package for MacOSX : http://stmargarets.school.nz/home/leif/pykota/PykoticonPy1.0.mpkg.zip
